Prof. Dr. med. Inga Katharina Koerte
Main Focus
The overarching goal of my research is to investigate the effects of brain trauma on the brain’s structure and function, as well as the development of diagnostic markers that can be used for the purpose of both therapeutic and preventative interventions. My projects focus on the most vulnerable traumatic brain injury (TBI) patient cohorts – children, adolescents, and women.
My background is in neuroimaging and I am Professor of Neurobiological Research in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Ludwig-Maximilian-University (LMU) in Munich, Germany and Research Associate at the Departments of Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as Lecturer in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
My research group cBRAIN is located at the LMU
downtown campus. We are using advanced multi-sequence MR imaging in humans
across the life span as well as in animal models to investigate alterations in
the brain’s microstructure, perfusion, biochemistry, viscoelasticity, and neurophysiology
following TBI.
We also investigate the effects of exposure to repetitive head impacts (e.g.,
in contact sports) and identify risk and resilience factors.
Accepting PhD students in 2025: To be determined.
