Who qualifies for the IMPRS-TP?

Degree

Students from all countries are welcome as applicants. Applicants must have a

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field or a
  • Medical Degree

Please note that you need to have completed your degree prior to starting the PhD program, but not necessarily at the time of application.

Applications from trainee medical doctors with research experience are particularly encouraged for our Residency/ PhD track.

As part of the selection process, the IMPRS-TP administrative office will verify the equivalence of the applicants’ academic/degree documents.

Grade / Score

A minimum grade/score applies for MSc degrees: within the German grading system, this is a score of 2.5 (where 1.0 is very good, 5.0 is a fail); In order to estimate the equivalency of your grade/score to the German grading system, please use the following formula:

x = equivalent grade
Nmax = maximum grade which can be achieved at your University
Nmin = minimum grade which can be achieved at your University and is still considered a pass
Nd = grade achieved as given on your transcript and / or certificates

Language Skills

Candidates whose native language is not English can provide a certificate documenting proficiency in English, for example through IELTS, TOEFL test. Students with their last degree from a University in a solely English-speaking country are exempt from taking a proficiency test. Providing English test results or documentation is recommended, but not required for the application process. Candidates applying for the Residency/PhD track need to be proficient in German (C1), when getting their medical degree approved in Germany (Approbation - click here for more details). At the time of starting at IMPRS, these candidates need to have B1 level of German so they can manage to reach C1 for their ‘Approbation’. If you are unsure if you qualify or if you have difficulties in getting the certificates in time, please contact us.
